Written on the very cusp of a global pandemic, I don't think any of us really knew what the following year had in store. Just over a year ago I was living in a busy town, going to the gym nearly every day, doing beadwork demos on live tv, juggling various work and life commitments, meeting my friends for coffee and cake and just generally living a wonderfully busy but happy life. When Covid-19 struck, it was an almost immediate lockdown for me as my husband Simon has a serious lung condition and needed to be shielded. However, we are very fortunate, and the timing couldn't have been better for us. As luck would have it, that very same week I was visiting my parent's old house in the middle of the countryside and so Simon joined me (complete with no end of technological paraphernalia from his employer) and we've been here shut away from civilisation ever since. It took a while to get used to the slower pace of life (and to being in the house of painful childhood memories) but gradually I adapted and started learning and relearning all sorts of skills, like growing my own vegetables and learning to bake, and I also discovered that I am not cut out to be a hairdresser! The one constant all through this time (and the thing that helped me maintain my connection to the outside world) was that I carried on beading. I'm grateful for so many things, but at this point I would like to say a big THANK YOU to <a href="https://www.preciosa-ornela.com/" target="_blank">Preciosa Ornela</a> for not only enabling me to continue doing the work that I love, but also for providing me with a creative outlet and a platform to share my work and ideas.</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-doCMWWPp_a0/YJ6CC2OaSkI/AAAAAAAAGBk/rWAHoP6sucICODRpzjProiieaxrCnZDxwCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/PRECIOSA-ORNELA-Floral-Hair-Band-Kerrie-Slade-01.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1365" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-doCMWWPp_a0/YJ6CC2OaSkI/AAAAAAAAGBk/rWAHoP6sucICODRpzjProiieaxrCnZDxwCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/PRECIOSA-ORNELA-Floral-Hair-Band-Kerrie-Slade-01.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t5sascsAQqo/YJ6CHvAXtzI/AAAAAAAAGBo/qjF-w__MVJ0GXsEBbped3-VKcgczxPMSQCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/PRECIOSA-ORNELA-Floral-Hair-Band-Kerrie-Slade-02.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1365" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t5sascsAQqo/YJ6CHvAXtzI/AAAAAAAAGBo/qjF-w__MVJ0GXsEBbped3-VKcgczxPMSQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/PRECIOSA-ORNELA-Floral-Hair-Band-Kerrie-Slade-02.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lJKPB5YEM3o/YJ6CKjWfTCI/AAAAAAAAGBs/GSpnv7wuYvEXXwNIasHMeuM4eJLLSjVowCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/Project%2Bfront%2Band%2Bback.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1614" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lJKPB5YEM3o/YJ6CKjWfTCI/AAAAAAAAGBs/GSpnv7wuYvEXXwNIasHMeuM4eJLLSjVowCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/Project%2Bfront%2Band%2Bback.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p><br /></p><p>I've made many finished pieces during the last 14 months, but the items I wanted to share with you today are three wedding themed projects. This kind of work is months in the making and it can easily be 6 months to a year before the first imaginings appear as the finished article. I began working with Preciosa's new ranges of <a href="https://www.preciosa-ornela.com/light-ivory-wedding" target="_blank">Light Ivory Wedding</a> and <a href="https://www.preciosa-ornela.com/one-news/preciosa-beaded-wedding-1571" target="_blank">Pearl Pastel Lining</a> beads and seed beads as far back as June 2020. My first step is usually to spend time with the beads to get a feel for them and to see if there are any obvious design ideas. It was easy with these as although they are all beautiful beads suitable for many occasions, it was clear that a wedding theme was what Preciosa was looking for. When I got married (27 years ago!) I was completely ignorant about beads and beading and so I bought myself a pearl necklace and earrings, but if I did it again it would be a different matter and I would probably be completely festooned in beads. For this reason I found it easy to step into full on 'bridal mode' and come up with a range of items for the imaginary bride, bridegroom and bridesmaids. The first piece (shown above) was the <a href="https://www.preciosa-ornela.com/project/floral-hair-band-1567" target="_blank">Floral Hairband</a> which uses very basic beadweaving techniques to create a variety of flower motifs which are then sewn onto a length of wide ribbon to tie around the head. I like this because it's a bit different to the usual tiaras, it's easy to match the colours to the rest of the wedding colour scheme and it looks super cute on little bridesmaids too. Of course this idea works just as well if you wanted to make an every day summer hair accessory.</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oXOYYXoMDgk/YKEOuSPOjdI/AAAAAAAAGCA/hDZYzSdAECIWBLibo8ZtPN_VI4Fjdg3GACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/PRECIOSA_ORNELA_Everlasting_Boutonni%25C3%25A8re_Kerrie_Slade_01%2B%25281%2529.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1365" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oXOYYXoMDgk/YKEOuSPOjdI/AAAAAAAAGCA/hDZYzSdAECIWBLibo8ZtPN_VI4Fjdg3GACLcBGAsYHQ/s320/PRECIOSA_ORNELA_Everlasting_Boutonni%25C3%25A8re_Kerrie_Slade_01%2B%25281%2529.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Kr_RigaxmNk/YKEO0VXH5lI/AAAAAAAAGCE/oKHP_7ifmvI9KYxlZ3MIVfU3wMuqC2EIgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/PRECIOSA_ORNELA_Everlasting_Boutonni%25C3%25A8re_Kerrie_Slade_02.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1365" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Kr_RigaxmNk/YKEO0VXH5lI/AAAAAAAAGCE/oKHP_7ifmvI9KYxlZ3MIVfU3wMuqC2EIgCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/PRECIOSA_ORNELA_Everlasting_Boutonni%25C3%25A8re_Kerrie_Slade_02.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Pm5gk4XGZPY/YKEO3RW02AI/AAAAAAAAGCI/-67hdnaTEDUNbTydk-SWTJxOaUAa6Y39ACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/Everlasting%2BBoutonniere%2Bcover%2Bpage.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1607" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Pm5gk4XGZPY/YKEO3RW02AI/AAAAAAAAGCI/-67hdnaTEDUNbTydk-SWTJxOaUAa6Y39ACLcBGAsYHQ/s320/Everlasting%2BBoutonniere%2Bcover%2Bpage.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p><br /></p><p>Preciosa then asked me to design a buttonhole for the groom. This was unusual as I am usually left to design whatever enters my head, but I must admit that I enjoyed the challenge of having an exact brief and so started to research what all the best dressed grooms are currently wearing. I noticed a trend for nature inspired buttonholes - feathers, flower buds, grasses and leaves, lots of leaves. So then I thought, wouldn't it be great if the groom had a nature inspired decoration that wouldn't wither and die but that could be a special keepsake that would last long after the memorable day. And so, Everlasting Boutonniere was born - I must admit that naming my projects is always a major part of the designing fun for me as I love words and language! The finished piece here consists of a simple beaded leaf and a spray of twisted silver wire with some lovely little forget-me-nots and a heart captured in it, all held together with a couple of beaded bands and a bow of ribbon to match the wedding colours which can then be pinned to a jacket lapel. I used the grey Pearl Pastel Lining rocailles for the leaf and added a spine of Light Ivory Wedding rocailles in ivory to tone with the forget-me-nots and heart. If you'd like to make one of these, you can download the pattern <a href="https://www.preciosa-ornela.com/project/everlasting-boutonniere-1554" target="_blank">here</a>.</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TycFvSBPu8c/YKItTZXfxBI/AAAAAAAAGCY/Qo3ilsmn9Lg3Dynhqc-ZtRswWtpKAqNQgCLcBGAsYHQ/s1100/p321514.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="730" data-original-width="1100" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TycFvSBPu8c/YKItTZXfxBI/AAAAAAAAGCY/Qo3ilsmn9Lg3Dynhqc-ZtRswWtpKAqNQgCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/p321514.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-48Ed-Fhu3GM/YKItjkGSIDI/AAAAAAAAGCg/H_DY0turae80W63tvsRiRtibgWIcgRC4ACLcBGAsYHQ/s2047/51061686318_e045dd4dd3_k.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1365" data-original-width="2047" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-48Ed-Fhu3GM/YKItjkGSIDI/AAAAAAAAGCg/H_DY0turae80W63tvsRiRtibgWIcgRC4ACLcBGAsYHQ/s320/51061686318_e045dd4dd3_k.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DAwe5_q7ko4/YKItpraU90I/AAAAAAAAGCk/wX6NCeD5yqggJryB84wM7q-KDjeesjguACLcBGAsYHQ/s1583/1557-wedding-belles-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1241" data-original-width="1583" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DAwe5_q7ko4/YKItpraU90I/AAAAAAAAGCk/wX6NCeD5yqggJryB84wM7q-KDjeesjguACLcBGAsYHQ/s320/1557-wedding-belles-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>The final project in this collection is the <a href="https://www.preciosa-ornela.com/project/wedding-belles-1557" target="_blank">Wedding Belles</a> set. These Pearl Pastel Lining beads are really <b>very</b> pretty and they were just crying out to be made into little flowers which lend themselves so well to a bridal theme. I'm a big fan of beaded ropes and have spent months of my life weaving miles of them, but this time not only did I want to create something quite delicate looking, I also wanted the flowers to stand out and to be the main focus and so I chose to create a little cluster of flowers which could be suspended from fine sterling silver chain. I gave each flower a long stamen of size 6 beads and mixed the colours up to use more of the lovely beads and to pull everything together. I also added matching size 6's along the length of the chain and this resulted in an elegant very wearable necklace which is light to wear and has great movement. These flowers are incredibly quick to make and so it is easy to make an entire matching set of necklace, bracelet and earrings for the bride along with coordinating items for the bridesmaids. A pair of earrings or a single flower as a pendant or bracelet charm would also make a great thank you gift for a maid/matron of honour or bridesmaids.<div><br /><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_8ZZfNcy-bI/YKI0-P5iAII/AAAAAAAAGCw/vcNJs73IVCgOjMk9zgPqVCq2jHbhojVlwCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/51062470396_850e301270_6k.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1365" data-original-width="2048" height="266" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_8ZZfNcy-bI/YKI0-P5iAII/AAAAAAAAGCw/vcNJs73IVCgOjMk9zgPqVCq2jHbhojVlwCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h266/51062470396_850e301270_6k.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div><br /><p>As you can see, I also made a tiny set of jewellery for the beautiful little bridesmaid in our make-believe wedding and this angelic picture makes me smile every time I see it. And so, I finish this blog post as I started, feeling fortunate and grateful. I have spent many years learning about beading and trying to perfect what I do and this doesn't only involve spending hours sat alone in silence with a needle and thread, it also includes learning to write easy to follow patterns, painstakingly drawing diagrams and the art of running a small business. But everything has come together, which means that with great thanks to Preciosa Ornela for their continued support, I can share more <a href="https://www.preciosa-ornela.com/ambassador/kerrie-slade-225" target="_blank">free patterns</a> with you and whether you have a wedding on your horizon or simply fancy making yourself a summer hairband, I wish you many happy hours of beading.</p><p><br /></p><p>Take care, stay safe and see you next time.</p><p><br /></p><p>Kerrie <span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: georgia, times, serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">♥</span></p><p><br /></p><p> </p></div></div>Kerrie Sladehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11122100745488768383noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1964951234704513242.post-43452124761352328652020-03-13T19:12:00.000+00:002020-03-14T09:26:46.188+00:00The Floribunda Story!Hello everyone!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Do you remember <a href="http://kerrieslade.blogspot.com/2013/04/stripes-and-spikes.html" target="_blank">Floribunda Bangle</a>? Back in 2013 (Gulp! Was it really 7 years ago?) <a href="https://www.preciosa-ornela.com/" target="_blank">Preciosa Ornela</a> gave me the opportunity to create a collection of work to showcase their striped seed beads. This was perfect timing for me because Mum had recently passed away, and having an important creative assignment that I could immerse myself in was just the thing I needed to be able to quietly process my thoughts and feelings as I came to terms with my loss. I spent several months experimenting with these beautiful beads, creating a variety of finished pieces - some wearable, some for decoration and some purely whimsical. One of the items was Floribunda Bangle.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g0IRKrYK36E/XmlKIIyIT5I/AAAAAAAAEHM/IdyiWQ2_rPg4pUYixliYFg6zz--lhtdJwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/17.Slade_Kerrie_Floribunda.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1063" data-original-width="1600" height="212" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g0IRKrYK36E/XmlKIIyIT5I/AAAAAAAAEHM/IdyiWQ2_rPg4pUYixliYFg6zz--lhtdJwCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/17.Slade_Kerrie_Floribunda.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I always knew that Flori wasn't shy. Big and bold, full of movement and fun, she was a popular girl from the moment she came to life and for several years after. She received lots of attention on social media, graced the cover of a magazine, became a calendar girl, was also selected to appear in the <a href="https://www.kerrieslade.co.uk/playful-perfection-book/" target="_blank">Playful Perfection</a> book and even got a mention on live TV on <a href="http://www.jewellerymaker.com/en-gb/" target="_blank">JewelleryMaker</a>.<br />

</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Fast forward to the summer of 2019, when suddenly Preciosa Ornela asked if I could make matching earrings and a necklace so that a full Floribunda set could be used for an exhibition in Prague in 2020. I already had lots of work on at that time, but it seemed such a great privilege that of course I happily agreed. Now, I believe that 'Floribunda' is Latin for "many flowering", so I knew that to make a necklace worthy of being Floribunda Bangle's big sister would require a LOT of flowers. Of course I could have saved time and effort and made a single flower to hang on a chain, that might have looked lovely and elegant, but Flori wouldn't have approved, so I made a start.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WSE9qBeejbA/XmoXFHSfN8I/AAAAAAAAEH4/E9rMpiYyFwYtirJZYJ8qiSIhOwMFrcgWgCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IMG_1120.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1379" data-original-width="1600" height="275" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WSE9qBeejbA/XmoXFHSfN8I/AAAAAAAAEH4/E9rMpiYyFwYtirJZYJ8qiSIhOwMFrcgWgCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/IMG_1120.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I tried to do a rough calculation of how many flowers I would need to make, how much time I had and how many flowers I would need to make per day. However, I am not the least bit mathematically minded, and so I ended up having to make nearly double my original estimate to create a really dense cluster of flowers that encircled the neck. It took 80 flowers to fill a neckwire and to make matching earrings and each flower took approximately 1 hour to make. I beaded in the evenings, at weekends, on car journeys - every spare minute was spent working on Floribunda flowers and when I closed my eyes, all I could see were stripes!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xEB4SBacGtQ/XmoZWDzyt2I/AAAAAAAAEIE/l-fQLN9asGgAQpNvD9xXdCmcPAOszlm6QCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20190826_121954.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xEB4SBacGtQ/XmoZWDzyt2I/AAAAAAAAEIE/l-fQLN9asGgAQpNvD9xXdCmcPAOszlm6QCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20190826_121954.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Florence, my beautiful model, helped me a great deal. She patiently wore the part-made necklace, and at the end of each day I added a few more flowers, wondering how many I could make the next day, just how many more would I need to make and would I have enough striped beads to finish it? Beading is a wonderful satisfying pastime, but any professional beader will tell you that when the pressure is on, it can turn into something else. It was August and the UK was experiencing a heatwave, my clammy fingers kept losing a grip on the needle, the perspiration ran into my eyes, the Fireline thread cut into my fingers and made them bleed, but I had to keep going to meet the deadline. To keep me motivated, I tried to imagine a gorgeous catwalk model wearing a set of beaded jewellery that I had made.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Y5-dPLAbAkY/XmoeWt_TfZI/AAAAAAAAEIQ/pbAMSBbEeM8CgKtLzCclHJHxvhe_JZ02wCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20190827_105655%25280%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Y5-dPLAbAkY/XmoeWt_TfZI/AAAAAAAAEIQ/pbAMSBbEeM8CgKtLzCclHJHxvhe_JZ02wCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20190827_105655%25280%2529.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After nearly two weeks, I was satisfied that I had made enough flowers to bunch up nicely on the neckwire and I breathed a sigh of relief. All I had to do then was make a couple more flowers for a simple pair of earrings and I was done. A few quick pictures were taken, some rough notes made and then the Floribunda necklace and earrings were carefully packaged up, ready to be sent to the Czech Republic for professional photography and to take their place in the exhibition. I crossed my fingers that everything would arrive safely.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P5CxqHgcjjg/Xmoh1fzMvZI/AAAAAAAAEIc/xCbsscN_NNAVkBOy3hzb1-lIX2gxL8u2gCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20190827_110118.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P5CxqHgcjjg/Xmoh1fzMvZI/AAAAAAAAEIc/xCbsscN_NNAVkBOy3hzb1-lIX2gxL8u2gCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20190827_110118.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />

And now, seven months later, here is the beautiful model wearing the full Floribunda set of bangle, necklace and earrings. When I look at the picture below, I can hardly believe that I am looking at my work. Despite my small frustrations during the making of the necklace and earrings, I am delighted to have been part of this, and I would like to thank Preciosa Ornela for entrusting me with this undertaking. The pieces are currently on display at the <a href="http://www.museumportheimka.cz/introduction/" target="_blank">Museum of Contemporary Glass Art Portheimka</a> in Prague, representing beads and seed beads from the PRECIOSA Traditional Czech Beads<span class="ILfuVd">™</span> brand as part of the <a href="http://www.museumportheimka.cz/vystava/stardust/" target="_blank">Stardust - Luxury Czech Jewellery</a> exhibition. The exhibition runs from the 9th of March 2020 to the 14th of June 2020 and is open to the public.<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Things are still a little bit topsy-turvy in my life at the moment, so this will be another brief post, but I wanted to show you a few little pieces I made using <a href="https://preciosa-ornela.com/en/products/seed-beads/two-cut-beads#product-specification" target="_blank">PRECIOSA Two-Cut Beads</a>. I have quite a lot of cut beads in my collection, ranging from Two-Cut and Three-Cut, to various sizes of Bugles, and although I love the way the light glints and reflects off the cut edge, I've been more a collector of cut beads rather than a user. I must admit that I used to shy away from any cut beads as I feared that they would have sharp edges that would sever my beading thread, undoing all the hard work in a carefully crafted piece of beadwork. However, not long ago, <a href="https://preciosa-ornela.com/en/" target="_blank">Preciosa Ornela</a> asked me to work with some of their Two-Cut beads and so I put my fears to one side and gave it a go.</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9wfhDDGA8qI/W6UceooHxGI/AAAAAAAAEDk/spLF7Wex9fQJDqv5XEOa6m4kHRGkUfshwCLcBGAs/s1600/43205520274_c8d8566570_k.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1063" data-original-width="1600" height="265" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9wfhDDGA8qI/W6UceooHxGI/AAAAAAAAEDk/spLF7Wex9fQJDqv5XEOa6m4kHRGkUfshwCLcBGAs/s400/43205520274_c8d8566570_k.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Instead of jumping in with both feet, I thought I would take my introduction to weaving with cut beads slowly. I decided to make a simple Kumihimo bracelet to start with, which would enable me to use thick S-Lon thread, therefore reducing the thread-slicing risk. The lovely rhythmic braiding process gave me chance to look closely at the beads, to get to know them a bit better and to start to relax. I chose red and blue Two-Cuts and mixed them with some white size 7 rocailles and white S-Lon to give a patriotic feel - the colours of both the UK and Czech Republic flag! I made the bracelet long enough to wrap twice around my wrist, and added a little button and loop closure.</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qX4EXJMWAEo/W6Uck4f8lZI/AAAAAAAAEDo/3OscuELtnBY9Q32AAC3TorzKA2axifE8wCLcBGAs/s1600/43205521674_48a85ec547_k.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1063" data-original-width="1600" height="265" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qX4EXJMWAEo/W6Uck4f8lZI/AAAAAAAAEDo/3OscuELtnBY9Q32AAC3TorzKA2axifE8wCLcBGAs/s400/43205521674_48a85ec547_k.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Although I was happy with the results of my first piece, I still didn't quite have the confidence to use my usual Nymo or Fireline with them in basic beadweaving stitches. So next I did a bit of embroidery using Ultrasuede and heavy duty 14lb Fireline to create a Gothic style brooch. I used a mix of Two-Cuts, Drops, fire polished beads and Charlottes to circle a glass button with a skull and crossbones design and completed the look with a drooping black ribbon bow. I had absolutely no problem with the Two-Cuts and the thicker Fireline, so by now I was starting to wonder if I had spent years missing out on using cut beads in my designs because of my unnecessary fear of them.</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ReBHKTXsCFc/W6UctT59bdI/AAAAAAAAEDs/beWULWgTuEgGmybJyCXivN9h_1UGdEomwCLcBGAs/s1600/43205525594_b72f10e295_k.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1063" data-original-width="1600" height="265" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ReBHKTXsCFc/W6UctT59bdI/AAAAAAAAEDs/beWULWgTuEgGmybJyCXivN9h_1UGdEomwCLcBGAs/s400/43205525594_b72f10e295_k.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So for my final Two-Cut piece, I went back to what I know best - 6lb Fireline and herringbone stitch! I made lots of little beaded tubes with grey AB Two-Cuts in both shiny and matte, threaded them onto sterling silver beading chain along with some cream 4mm glass pearls, and then added a sterling silver clasp to make a three row bracelet with lots of movement. This is the sort of beadwork I love to do and I made 24 of these little tubes with absolutely no trouble at all. None of the beads cut my thread while I was working with them and the bracelet has been worn repeatedly with no problems. So there - accepting the opportunity to work with <a href="https://preciosa-ornela.com/en/products/seed-beads/two-cut-beads#product-specification" target="_blank">PRECIOSA Two-Cut Beads</a> not only gave me chance to work with interesting bead shapes and colours, it also cured me of my phobia of cut beads!</div>
<br />
See you next time!<br />

Thank you so much to everyone from around the world who joined in with IBW and entered the contest. Both myself and Preciosa agreed that it was incredibly hard to choose the winning pieces as there were so many wonderful, intricate and imaginative entries. If you have not been awarded a prize this time, please do not be disheartened, every entry I received showed hard work, patience and a love of beadwork - keep on beading!<br />
<br />
<b>Will the 11 winners please contact me as soon as possible with their postal address so that the prizes may be sent out.</b><br />
<br />
Happy beading!<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Well here we are, after all the anticipation and behind the scenes preparation - <a href="https://www.nationalbeadingweek.co.uk/" target="_blank">International Beading Week</a> is upon us! There are all sorts of great offers and events taking place all over the world, so be sure to check out the menu on the <a href="https://www.nationalbeadingweek.co.uk/Diary-of-Events.php" target="_blank">IBW website</a>. <span style="text-align: start;">I've often said how much I appreciate the way modern technology enables us to connect, and I generally consider myself to be an international beader, but the build up to IBW has been a particularly exciting time for me. For the last couple of months I've been working with companies from the UK, Czech Republic and Germany, posting books to the USA, Portugal and Austria, answering beady queries from Cameroon, Nigeria and Canada and processing contest entries from the UK, USA, Ukraine, Germany, Greece, Slovenia, Lithuania, Italy and India!</span><br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: start;">You still have one week to send me your <a href="http://kerrieslade.blogspot.com/2018/05/international-beading-week-competition.html" target="_blank">contest entry</a> photos to be in with a chance of winning a copy of my book and a kilo of beads from the <a href="https://www.preciosa-ornela.com/en/products" target="_blank">PRECIOSA Traditional Czech Beads<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;">™</span></a> brand, as shown in the photo below. Find one of my patterns, make it with beads from Preciosa and send me a picture, it's as simple as that - just imagine what sparkly things you could make with that lot!</span><br />

<span style="text-align: start;">For my next IBW initiative, I've teamed up with <a href="https://www.beadsdirect.co.uk/" target="_blank">Beads Direct</a> to design an exclusive kit, which has been launched today and is available to purchase from their website. Designed and written by me and beautifully packaged by Beads Direct, Pretty Pellets is a softly romantic looking bracelet made with <a href="https://www.preciosa-ornela.com/en/products" target="_blank">PRECIOSA</a> Rocailles, Imitation Pearls and Pellets<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;">™. You have the option to make a simple single row bracelet, or a more elaborate double row cuff style bracelet. Each kit contains sufficient materials to make two single row or one double row bracelet and comes in either <a href="https://www.beadsdirect.co.uk/new/gold-kerrie-slade-pretty-pellet-bracelet-kit-made-preciosa-make-x1-double-or-x2-single" target="_blank">gold</a> or <a href="https://www.beadsdirect.co.uk/new/silver-kerrie-slade-pretty-pellet-bracelet-kit-made-preciosa-makes-x1-double-or-x2-single" target="_blank">silver</a> colourways.</span></span><br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
What's this? Nothing on the blog for a year and a half and then two entries within ten days?! Well, as I hinted in the <a href="http://kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk/2018/05/international-beading-week-competition.html" target="_blank">last blog post</a> I've just had my 85th pattern published. This time it's a fun summery project 'Mix and Match Flower Bracelets' which you can find in issue 87 of <a href="http://www.beadmagazine.co.uk/" target="_blank">Bead and Jewellery magazine</a> which is out now.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A couple of years ago, I was fortunate enough to celebrate my 50th birthday in Madeira, where I discovered that cork is used to make everything from jewellery to clothing. I learned that cork is a sustainable natural product harvested from the Quercus suber tree (cork oak) and I believe that most cork forests are actually in Portugal and Spain. While in Madeira, Simon bought himself a cork wallet and it's such a beautiful soft material that most people don't realise what it's made from when they see it. I treated myself to a cork bracelet which I sadly lost, so I was very pleased when I later discovered that I could buy the cord and incorporate it into my own jewellery designs. I love the look and feel of the natural cord, but I've chosen to use pastel coloured <a href="http://www.endlessleather.com/jewelry-cords/cork-cord" target="_blank">cork cord</a> from Endless Leather for these pretty little bracelets as it perfectly compliments the lovely transparent and opaque <a href="https://www.preciosa-ornela.com/en/products/seed-beads/rocailles" target="_blank">PRECIOSA rocailles</a> I've used to make the flowers.</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've called this project 'Mix and Match' because these simple flower shapes are made in two layers, which means you can slide them on and off the cord and <a href="http://www.endlessleather.com/jewellery-findings" target="_blank">jewellery findings</a> to change the colour combination for alternative looks. I decided to make my bracelets in delicate pastel colours of yellow, apricot and rose, but if girly isn't your thing, you could easily make them in darker or more muted tones, or even go for bold neon colours for a completely different look. The cord is only 10 mm wide so these also make great stacking bracelets which is in tune with the current festival trend.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I hope you enjoy this quick and easy project, and don't forget you can also use this pattern if you want to have a go at winning the prizes I am currently offering in <a href="http://kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk/2018/05/international-beading-week-competition.html" target="_blank">my contest</a>.</div>
<br />
Have fun and see you next time!<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's been a little while since I updated my blog, but here I am, and with news! I've been involved in National Beading Week since it began in 2015, but this year it has morphed into <a href="https://www.nationalbeadingweek.co.uk/" target="_blank">INTERnational Beading Week</a> and I'm delighted to be one of the ambassadors. International Beading Week takes place from the 28th of July to the 5th of August this year and there will be all kinds of exciting worldwide beady activities taking place. Keep a close eye on the menu at the top of the IBW page as details of events, special offers and freebies will be added soon. I have several things planned, but the first thing I wanted to tell you about is that I am holding a contest which is open internationally.</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Rh3FLD_EDXM/WvMNxvpza6I/AAAAAAAAD-4/qqDUBPmhId8_5Ot5xvA4O02SBI3Db6baQCLcBGAs/s1600/IBW%2BLogo%2B2018.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1293" data-original-width="1292" height="200" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Rh3FLD_EDXM/WvMNxvpza6I/AAAAAAAAD-4/qqDUBPmhId8_5Ot5xvA4O02SBI3Db6baQCLcBGAs/s200/IBW%2BLogo%2B2018.jpg" width="199" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There are five fantastic prizes on offer (more on that below) and to be in with a chance of winning there are two main requirements: the first is that you make something using one of my patterns, and the second is that it must be made using seed beads and/or beads from the <a href="https://www.preciosa-ornela.com/en/products" target="_blank">PRECIOSA Traditional Czech Beads</a><span style="font-family: "roboto" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;"><a href="https://www.preciosa-ornela.com/en/products" target="_blank">™</a> </span>brand. It could be one of the patterns I sell via <a href="http://www.kerrieslade.co.uk/tutorials-for-sale/products/" target="_blank">my website</a>, one from my book <a href="http://www.kerrieslade.co.uk/playful-perfection-book/" target="_blank">Playful Perfection</a>, one of my free patterns available from the Preciosa Ornela <a href="https://www.preciosa-ornela.com/en/news/projects" target="_blank">project page</a> or one of the many that I have published in books and magazines over the years. I actually did a count yesterday and was quite shocked to realise that I have published 84 different patterns (soon to be 85!) so there are plenty to choose from, as you can see below.</div>

You could make a simple pair of cufflinks in a couple of hours, or you could spend considerably more time making one of my floral lariats for example - from beginner to advanced, there is something out there for everyone. It doesn't matter which project you make, whether you make an identical piece or adapt it. You might like to change the colours, turn a bracelet pattern into a necklace, try using different sized seed beads and beads, whatever you wish, but it should be clearly identifiable as originating from one of my patterns. Some of my designs call for specific types of beads, so unless you want to have some fun seeing if they work with other types, choose your pattern carefully. When you have finished your piece, take a picture of it and either post it on my <a href="https://www.facebook.com/beadwork.by.kerrie.slade/" target="_blank">Facebook business page</a> and tag me, send me the picture via Facebook Messenger or email me (address can be found at the bottom of my website). Please make sure I have a way to contact you should you be one of the lucky winners, and if you are, we will then need your postal address to send you the goodies. The contest will be judged by both myself and Preciosa Ornela and the final five will not necessarily be selected due to the complexity of the piece, but rather the workmanship, attention to detail and overall pleasing appearance.</div>

Preciosa Ornela is generously providing five equal prizes of a copy of my book and 1kg of beads (yes you read that right - one whole kilogram of beads!), which, as you can see from the sample photo above, is a whole lot of beautiful beads. So if you want to increase your bead collection, or maybe experiment with some new shapes that you've never tried before, it's well worth having a go at this contest! I'm so glad to be in a position to be able to embrace the spirit of International Beading Week and share the beady love worldwide, and I'm really looking forward to seeing which piece you decide to make. The contest is now open, the closing date is the 6th of August 2018 and the winners will be announced on my blog the following week. Good luck everyone!</div>

<span face=""verdana" , sans-serif">I spent the best part of a year planning and writing this book, and with enormous help from Preciosa Ornela, the result is a 150 page hardback book containing 30 projects divided into 4 sections: Necklaces, Bracelets, Other Jewellery and Decorations. Each project includes a paragraph about my thoughts and inspiration behind the design, useful information about the piece (such as size, technique and difficulty level), a list of required materials and tools and step-by-step instructions with detailed diagrams. The projects use a variety of widely available shaped beads and easy to source seed beads and findings.</span></div>

Some of the older projects have been reworked (for example Pirouetting Pips which was originally published in the Australian publication <a href="http://www.digitalbeading.com.au/" target="_blank">Digital Beading Magazine</a> as a delicate gold and silver bracelet is now a striking black and white choker style necklace) however, please be aware that only 11 of the projects are new to publication and so you may already have some of the others in your pattern collection. This is a substantial book weighing close to 1kg, so the postage costs are quite high. It will be dispatched using standard Royal Mail services and prices include a signed copy of the book, packing and postage broken down into within the UK, Europe and the rest of the world. I have put my heart and soul into producing the very best work that I can and I am happy with the end result because it is very 'me', so I do hope that it brings you many happy hours of beading enjoyment. This book has my name on the cover, but its creation was very much a team effort and so I would sincerely like to thank Preciosa Ornela as a whole for the opportunity and the continued support of my work, the Preciosa Ornela team members and graphic designer for a huge amount of technical help and patience and my husband Simon and my friends for all of their encouragement, reassurance and practical help - thank you!</span></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Later this month the second ever <a href="http://www.nationalbeadingweek.co.uk/" target="_blank">National Beading Week</a> gets under way here in the UK, running from the 30th of July to the 7th of August. Following on from last year's success, it promises to be an even bigger and better celebration of all things beady with lots of exciting events taking place around the country. Take a look around the website by following the link above and find out how you can get involved in National Beading Week!</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm delighted to have teamed up with <a href="http://www.mailorder-beads.co.uk/" target="_blank">The Bead Shop (Nottingham) Ltd.</a> again this year and I will be teaching my <a href="http://www.mailorder-beads.co.uk/shop/kerrie-slades-daisy-chain/#axzz4ENCStVCk" target="_blank">Daisy Chain Bracelet</a> at the shop on Saturday the 6th of August. It will be a 3-hour class and although we won't be able to make a full bracelet during that time, we will cover all the important points and there will be detailed instructions provided to enable you to confidently complete your bracelet at home. I will also be bringing along some finished samples to give you ideas of other ways to use these realistic little flowers. You can see some of the bracelets I've made below, but there are virtually endless colour variations you could try. The Bead Shop stocks a wide range of the beads and pearls we will need, so we will have great fun choosing colour combinations before we get started - always one of my favourite parts of the class!<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
My class will run from 10am until 1pm and in the afternoon The Bead Shop will be hosting one of their regular informal bead groups from 2pm until 5pm, which I will also be attending. If you stay for the afternoon session you can carry on with your bracelet or bring another project with you to work on while chatting to other beaders. These sessions always have a lovely relaxed and friendly atmosphere, refreshments will be available (the shop asks for a £2 contribution for this) and the light and airy classroom is right above a store full of beads. So Saturday the 6th of August promises to be a very enjoyable day and while composing this blog post, I have just heard that there are only 4 places left on the workshop - so if you are thinking of booking, don't leave it too long!</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Surprise! I expect you thought I'd given up on blogging, didn't you? Well what with <a href="https://www.facebook.com/beadwork.by.kerrie.slade/" target="_blank">Facebook</a>, <a href="https://uk.pinterest.com/kerrieslade/" target="_blank">Pinterest</a>, <a href="https://twitter.com/KerrieSlade" target="_blank">Twitter</a>, <a href="https://uk.linkedin.com/in/kerrie-slade-9a379536" target="_blank">LinkedIn</a> and now <a href="https://www.instagram.com/kerriesladebeads/" target="_blank">Instagram</a> it can be hard to find time to do any actual beading, but I do have a genuine top secret reason for my absence which I will post about in the coming months. For now though I wanted to drop by and let you know that the fabulous <a href="http://www.jeanpower.com/" target="_blank">Jean Power</a> has a new book out called "<i>Woman's Weekly Guide to Beading</i>". I was very fortunate to be asked to be a guest designer for this book and my project "Brick Stitch Bloom" can be found on page 150.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6YlyEird1KU/V0MG1jT9wYI/AAAAAAAAD38/o-qqbETo1LUaXjf-tSWf3Emc0HdRwI6owCLcB/s1600/BrickStitchBloom.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="198" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6YlyEird1KU/V0MG1jT9wYI/AAAAAAAAD38/o-qqbETo1LUaXjf-tSWf3Emc0HdRwI6owCLcB/s400/BrickStitchBloom.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Jean has nearly a shelf-full of beading books to her name now and this is another great comprehensive book that has something for everyone from beginners up to the more experienced beader. It is neatly broken down into chapters covering the basics of beading, stringing, wirework and woven beadwork. My little flower brooch is in the woven beadwork section of course and it's much easier to make than it probably looks. I have to say that the illustrations in this book are some of the best I have ever seen and the art department has done a marvellous job with my original diagrams that now look really lovely and easy to follow. The UK edition of this book is called "<i><a href="https://www.amazon.co.uk/Womans-Weekly-Guide-Beading-Techniques/dp/1782213848?ie=UTF8&keywords=woman%27s%20weekly%20guide%20to%20beading&qid=1457974771&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1" target="_blank">Woman's Weekly Guide to Beading</a></i>" and the US version is called "<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Beading-Techniques-Projects-Lifelong-Beginners/dp/1438007582/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1464011894&sr=8-1&keywords=beading+learn+it+love+it" style="font-style: italic;" target="_blank">Beading Learn It. Love It</a>" so although you might see two different covers (as shown below) they are actually both the same book.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SUZjqT7-KU8/V0MKRkBRywI/AAAAAAAAD4I/zBcJPV11JaQwR96fFqnnNFo0YB9f3LEDwCLcB/s1600/WomansWeeklyGuideToBeading.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SUZjqT7-KU8/V0MKRkBRywI/AAAAAAAAD4I/zBcJPV11JaQwR96fFqnnNFo0YB9f3LEDwCLcB/s320/WomansWeeklyGuideToBeading.jpg" width="244" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BuWMLL4QoRY/V0MKUoD3QjI/AAAAAAAAD4M/xDycdhWuuwkVwrHjcFNQcenVQrMEV839gCLcB/s1600/BeadingLearnItLoveIt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BuWMLL4QoRY/V0MKUoD3QjI/AAAAAAAAD4M/xDycdhWuuwkVwrHjcFNQcenVQrMEV839gCLcB/s320/BeadingLearnItLoveIt.jpg" width="254" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">When I was invited to submit a project for the book I was given a specific colour palette to use and the following project brief: design a small floral project that incorporates peyote or brick stitch with 17-19 step-by-step instructions. As you can imagine, this ticked a lot of boxes for me because it is just the type of beadwork I love to do and so I chose to make a 9 petalled brick stitch flower brooch and it took exactly 19 steps to explain how to make it! I used beautiful <a href="http://preciosa-ornela.com/en/" target="_blank">Preciosa Ornela</a> seed beads in shade numbers 331 19001 46025 (purple) and 331 19001 63021 (green) and added a white glass pearl to the centre. This innocent looking little flower does actually hold a design secret, so if you want to know what that is - go and treat yourself to a copy of Jean's wonderful new book!</span></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After a hectic close to 2015 I'm finally back to update my sadly neglected blog and the big news is that I am starting 2016 with a sparkly <a href="http://www.kerrieslade.co.uk/" target="_blank">new website</a>! I created my original website back in 2008 using a template package and it was everything I needed at the time, but as things have developed with my little business I felt it was time to have something more professional and so I turned to the guys at <a href="http://dijitul.uk/" target="_blank">Dijitul</a> to help me. If you were familiar with the old website you will notice that the new one looks very similar in content (but hopefully a bit more streamlined!) but it now has a modern e-commerce store section to enable the smooth running purchase and delivery of my patterns.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ddCVPaly6kA/VpJ9s3h-X_I/AAAAAAAAD2o/bHkeTCQkTfM/s1600/Website-Homepage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="328" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ddCVPaly6kA/VpJ9s3h-X_I/AAAAAAAAD2o/bHkeTCQkTfM/s400/Website-Homepage.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The photo above is a screenshot of the new homepage but there is plenty more to see such as a new gallery page, an updated published work page and a handy 'Contact Me' box that appears on every page. The intent is for the website to be uncluttered and easy to navigate and so pages have been kept to a minimum with a menu at both the top and bottom of every page to save lots of going backwards and forwards. Most of the images are clickable to enable you to take a closer look and the published work page has clickable links to all of my free patterns that are available from <a href="http://www.preciosa-ornela.com/en/" target="_blank">Preciosa</a> and <a href="http://bnb.jewelrymakingmagazines.com/" target="_blank">Bead and Button</a> magazine as well as images of all my other patterns. I also have some lovely shiny new buttons at the bottom of every page which will take you straight to my Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest pages, and if you visit the '<a href="http://www.kerrieslade.co.uk/tutorials-for-sale/products/" target="_blank">Tutorials for Sale</a>' page and click on the image, title or 'More info' section of each pattern you can even like or share the item via Facebook or Twitter!</div>
<br />

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-O9oWCgyzRgg/VpKDolnxP_I/AAAAAAAAD24/LzkWDkKuCS8/s1600/Website-Gallery-Page.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="312" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-O9oWCgyzRgg/VpKDolnxP_I/AAAAAAAAD24/LzkWDkKuCS8/s400/Website-Gallery-Page.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In other news I'm also happy to report that my Chilli Flower bracelet has been used in the <a href="http://www.preciosa-ornela.com/en/?source=www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk" target="_blank">Preciosa Ornela</a> advertising campaign and appears in the latest issue of <a href="http://bnb.jewelrymakingmagazines.com/?source=www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk" target="_blank">Bead and Button</a> magazine. I've had a few requests for a tutorial for this design and there is a chance that will actually happen in the coming months but I can't give you any more information yet as we are still working out the final details of where and when.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
So that's all my news for now. I'd like to thank you all for reading my blog and for following my beady travels throughout 2015. I'm not 100% sure which direction I will take in 2016 but I have lots of ideas in the pot so it should be another interesting journey and I hope that you can stay with me to see what happens next. I wish you all a very Happy New Year and I hope that 2016 holds many contented hours of beading for you.</div>
<br />
See you next time!<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm here with news of the new Chilli™ bead which has recently been launched by the <a href="http://www.preciosa-ornela.com/en/?source=www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk" target="_blank">PRECIOSA Traditional Czech Beads brand</a>. Once again I was fortunate enough to be involved in creating some promotional pieces using the new beads and so I spent a couple of happy weeks turning them this way and that and having a whole lot of fun with them. The Chilli measures 4 x 11 mm and is a narrow elongated bead with a flat edge and two holes which you can see in the picture below.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4S_Kxt_8kqk/Vh-tsuLb7JI/AAAAAAAAD0k/rMNakMAI0Tc/s1600/Chilli-Beads7-Beads.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="143" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4S_Kxt_8kqk/Vh-tsuLb7JI/AAAAAAAAD0k/rMNakMAI0Tc/s400/Chilli-Beads7-Beads.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've worked with a lot of shaped beads in the last few years and one of the things I particularly liked about the Chilli bead is that it works well with either the convex or concave side uppermost, or even on its side. Modern beads come in such a wonderful range of colours and finishes that it's nice to be able to admire them from every angle and so for the first piece I made I captured an upturned Chilli between pairs of Chilli beads on their side and then added a cluster of them in the centre with the curved side on top. I used a base of black Ultrasuede and a liberal sprinkling of chrome seed beads to complement the lovely mottled black and silver finish of colour number 23980/15481 and then turned it into a brooch.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oRoxv5tOGow/Vh-wBtby-BI/AAAAAAAAD0w/94XFeY4NqzQ/s1600/Chilli-Brooch-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oRoxv5tOGow/Vh-wBtby-BI/AAAAAAAAD0w/94XFeY4NqzQ/s400/Chilli-Brooch-3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-McyM-zJY4Zs/Vh-wDmdw44I/AAAAAAAAD04/UH-cjNZm9ic/s1600/Chilli-Brooch-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-McyM-zJY4Zs/Vh-wDmdw44I/AAAAAAAAD04/UH-cjNZm9ic/s400/Chilli-Brooch-2.jpg" width="265" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I liked the way this piece turned out and so I made another very similar piece using Chilli beads in colour number 23980/86800 which has a really nice speckled finish. Again I used black Ultrasuede as a backing, but this time with slightly smaller black seed beads and a burst of shiny silver seed beads in the centre for a touch of drama. Rather than a brooch I turned this one into a pendant by creating a hanging loop of seed beads and threading a length of black satin ribbon through it.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-s9EC4X5-LNg/Vh-0CNKChkI/AAAAAAAAD1E/0coiBUIh6G4/s1600/Chilli-Pendant-1Fb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-s9EC4X5-LNg/Vh-0CNKChkI/AAAAAAAAD1E/0coiBUIh6G4/s400/Chilli-Pendant-1Fb.jpg" width="265" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-R8YMWlXCN68/Vh-0D9t11yI/AAAAAAAAD1Q/QAd0ynEGZCA/s1600/Chilli-Pendant-2Fb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-R8YMWlXCN68/Vh-0D9t11yI/AAAAAAAAD1Q/QAd0ynEGZCA/s400/Chilli-Pendant-2Fb.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For the next piece I used silver Chilli beads (colour number 00030/27000) with shiny silver seed beads and black Twin beads to make some star-shaped components. Because the Chilli beads have two holes they mix perfectly with the other two-holed beads and so Chillies and Twins are a match made in heaven. I attached the individual components together using jump rings and some more Twin beads as connectors and then whipped up a pair of matching earrings to complete the set.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u9bnnMpYA9k/Vh_Ad9bEJUI/AAAAAAAAD14/F9rVTlHbO64/s1600/Chilli-Stars-2Fb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u9bnnMpYA9k/Vh_Ad9bEJUI/AAAAAAAAD14/F9rVTlHbO64/s400/Chilli-Stars-2Fb.jpg" width="400" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZjaSY54hB7g/Vh_A2WDu7gI/AAAAAAAAD2M/GVAZ4XI8REU/s1600/Chilli-Stars-Bracelet-and-E.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="288" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZjaSY54hB7g/Vh_A2WDu7gI/AAAAAAAAD2M/GVAZ4XI8REU/s320/Chilli-Stars-Bracelet-and-E.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NZD4AJ3TQGg/Vh_Af7xMudI/AAAAAAAAD2A/-mViBc_mZzY/s1600/Chilli-Stars-4Fb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NZD4AJ3TQGg/Vh_Af7xMudI/AAAAAAAAD2A/-mViBc_mZzY/s400/Chilli-Stars-4Fb.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As much as I love the classic black and silver combination, I wanted to introduce a little more colour and femininity into my final design and so I decided to make a romantic flower bracelet. For this one I used some beautiful transparent purple Chilli beads (00030/15781) and a lovely transparent pale blue (00030/14464) and mixed them with silver seed beads. I popped an 8 mm crystal AB fire polished bead into the centre of each one and attached the completed flowers to a simple herringbone rope.</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Although I love the freedom of being a one woman freelancer, I often find it frustrating that there is nobody to share the workload and help out with the boring stuff (like doing accounts, taking photos and updating websites) leaving me free to bead all day, every day. This means I don't get as much time as I'd like to work with all the wonderful beads available out there and I have to be a bit careful about what work I take on, however I am still happy to be a design team member for <a href="http://kazuriwest.com/kazuri?source=www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk" target="_blank">Many Hands Marketplace - Kazuri West</a> as helping to promote the work of the Samunnat and Kazuri ladies is very important to me. So I am glad to report that <a href="http://bnb.jewelrymakingmagazines.com/?source=www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk" target="_blank">Bead and Button magazine</a> has recently published my 'Safari Ring' project in the October 2015 issue of the magazine. And look - and there's even a tiny thumbnail picture of the project on the cover!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RXCg5o7Mi2E/Vg5kBEuHD7I/AAAAAAAAD0A/Xvbnh8K1CGI/s1600/BeadAndButtonOctober2015.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RXCg5o7Mi2E/Vg5kBEuHD7I/AAAAAAAAD0A/Xvbnh8K1CGI/s400/BeadAndButtonOctober2015.jpg" width="317" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This is a very simple project designed purely to show off those fabulous <a href="http://www.kazuriwest.com/kazuri/buttons" target="_blank">animal print Kazuri buttons</a> - just one netted ring band (either narrow or wide) made with <a href="http://www.preciosa-ornela.com/en/" target="_blank">Preciosa Ornela</a> seed beads and a variety of interchangeable buttons that you can snap on and off to suit your outfit or your mood. Perhaps one day you feel a little bit cheeky cheetah, another day could be an elephant kind of day (and we all have those!) or maybe it's a roaring lion type of day - make a ring in a couple of hours and go on your own personal safari!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I was pleased to read that in her editor's note, the editor of Bead and Button wrote "For a piece that is pure fun, try Kerrie Slade's adorable "Snappy safari ring", consisting of an easy netted ring with interchangeable snap-on animal print buttons. Love it!" as that is exactly what this project is all about. It's not technically challenging, it won't win any prizes and it doesn't take a week to make but hopefully it will inspire you to take a look at the lovely hand crafted <a href="http://www.kazuriwest.com/kazuri/buttons" target="_blank">Kazuri animal print buttons</a> and perhaps purchase a few to help to support the disadvantaged ladies who make them.</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So a couple of weeks ago I was writing <a href="http://kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk/2015/08/5th-beaders-best-bead-art-fair.html" target="_blank">a blog post</a> about the build up to the 5th BEADERS BEST Bead Art Fair in Germany and now here we are the other side of it. I spent nearly 4 months preparing for the show (creating designs, writing patterns, making samples, practicing etc.) and to say I was nervous beforehand would be an immense understatement - right up until an hour before the show started I was seriously considering quite literally running away because I doubted my own ability to put on a convincing performance. But with the support of my husband Simon, the <a href="http://www.preciosa-ornela.com/en/" target="_blank">Preciosa Ornela</a> team, the show organisers and some wonderful beading friends, everything ran smoothly and I would imagine that visitors to the show had no idea how I very nearly <b>wasn't</b> sitting there showing them how to make Pipflinks, Candles, Ripple Crown Pins and Kumihimo bracelets! Of course I know I can bead, I can write patterns and I can teach, but it was the unknown factor of doing public demonstrations at a large fair for a huge company that scared me, but of course I was worrying unnecessarily and now, looking back, I would even go so far as to say I enjoyed it and that I wouldn't hesitate to do it again! You can read my more formal review of the show over on the <a href="http://cs.jewelrymakingmagazines.com/bnb/b/beadandbutton/archive/2015/08/27/the-5th-bead-art-fair-in-germany.aspx" target="_blank">Bead and Button blog</a>, but this is a simple personal post, showing a selection of pictures that tell the story of when Kerrie Slade went to the 5th BEADERS BEST Bead Art Fair.</div>

Talking to the wonderful <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/madebyolga" target="_blank">Olga Vinnere Pettersson</a> from Sweden minutes before the doors opened. Olga has an aura of calm and tranquillity about her and she kindly passed some on to me - along with some lovely Swedish chocolate!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
This giant poster of my 'Pipflinks' design never failed to make me smile and remind me of just why I was there. I love how Preciosa kept my made-up word for the name of the <a href="http://preciosa-ornela.com/en/news/projects/intermediate/479-pipflinks-cufflinks" target="_blank">project</a>!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
This is how much of my time was spent, sat at the Preciosa stand doing demos of my four projects alongside their very talented in-house designer Helena Chmelikova. In this shot I am chatting to the great Francesca Walton and her lovely friend Suzanne.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Of course sitting at the back of the booth gets boring, so I would often go to the front and talk to beading friends and visitors - here I am chatting to Gerlinde Lenz about her new beading book.</div>

Day two held more of the same but the fair was much busier and went in a whirl of demos and mini workshops for me. Here I am showing a couple of ladies how to do Kumihimo.</div>

I met lots of wonderful beading ladies during the fair and this is an example of just one of the many photos that were taken of us all. Take a look at <a href="http://de.dawanda.com/shop/NadyaGerber" target="_blank">Nadya's</a> amazing necklace (far right).</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Sunday was the third day of the fair and I think you can see from this photo (taken by the talented <a href="http://www.trinkets.nl/" target="_blank">Sandra Scholte</a>) that by now I had relaxed into it and was enjoying myself!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Towards the end of the show Freddie Ott (the creative director of <a href="https://www.perlen-poesie.com/" target="_blank">Perlen Poesie magazine</a>) took this picture of me wearing 'Garden Party' the necklace that made the cover of the current issue. I had no idea this was going to happen so it was lucky I happened to be wearing a matching top that day!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
If you had given me a crystal ball before the show and let me glimpse this picture, I would not have believed my eyes! At the end of the fair I joined in with the fashion show and paraded on the catwalk wearing my necklace. Note to self - if you can do that, you can do ANYTHING!</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
So there you have it - three days in twelve pictures! Despite all my apprehensions this turned out to be a really fantastic experience for me. So if you ever find yourself in this situation and think 'Should I? Could I?' please, just say 'YES!'</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've only just realised that although I have mentioned the <a href="https://www.perlen-poesie.com/beaders-best" target="_blank">5th BEADERS BEST Bead Art Fair</a> in a couple of recent entries, I haven't actually written a proper blog post about it and yet the fun starts in Hamburg just next week! The show is organised by the editors of <a href="https://www.perlen-poesie.com/" target="_blank">Perlen Poesie magazine</a> and I was lucky enough to teach some workshops at the first fair back in 2011. I had a great time there and met lots of beady people from around the world who had all flocked to the new fair in northern Germany. Of course the event has grown since then and moved to a larger venue too and so I am really looking forward to attending again and catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. Things are different for me too this time around as instead of teaching workshops in a private classroom, I will be doing free demos at the <a href="http://www.preciosa-ornela.com/en/" target="_blank">Preciosa Ornela</a> stand.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lIX4YKu4c30/Vc8tz3uIJ-I/AAAAAAAADvI/N3kvqM0NZ38/s1600/BeadersBestFlyer.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lIX4YKu4c30/Vc8tz3uIJ-I/AAAAAAAADvI/N3kvqM0NZ38/s400/BeadersBestFlyer.jpg" width="281" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
On all three days of the fair I will be demonstrating four of my recent Preciosa projects: Kumihimo Pips, Pipflinks, Decorative Candle and Ripple Crown Pins and there will also be a display of some of my work together with the winning entries of Preciosa's recent "Flower Party" contest. There's no need to book, it is all quite informal and relaxed so people will be able to drop in and watch for a few minutes, or stay for a while and have a chat with me and the Preciosa team or even sit with us and have a go at one of the projects. There will also be free leaflets available for each project and I believe that Preciosa will have some little beady gifts for visitors too.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pCU09mJaIZo/Vc8xx8TyIBI/AAAAAAAADvc/nlpn9eSbYRc/s1600/Demo-collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pCU09mJaIZo/Vc8xx8TyIBI/AAAAAAAADvc/nlpn9eSbYRc/s400/Demo-collage.jpg" width="278" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Of course there will be all sorts of other exciting things happening at the fair as well including a wide variety of workshops from well known international teachers, fun contests and even a fashion show along with a huge range of beads, books, beading materials and finished work being on offer. You can find full details including a list of exhibitors and a floor plan on <a href="https://www.perlen-poesie.com/beaders-best" target="_blank">this page</a> of the Perlen Poesie website. It promises to be a great event and I hope you can join the <a href="http://www.preciosa-ornela.com/en/news/events/709-5-beaders-best-perlenkunst-messe" target="_blank">Flower Party</a> - you will be able to find me at stand A5 so be sure to come and say hello!</div>

<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
While at the show I am also hoping to spend some time wandering around taking pictures and chatting to exhibitors, teachers and visitors, as soon after I get back from Hamburg I will be writing a report on the show for the <a href="http://cs.jewelrymakingmagazines.com/bnb/b/beadandbutton/default.aspx" target="_blank">Bead and Button magazine blog</a> (as well as for my own blog) so watch out for that in a couple of weeks time.</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk/2015/07/national-beading-week.html" target="_blank">National Beading Week</a> has arrived and so it's been a busy few days with more demonstrations of my designs lined up at <a href="http://www.mailorder-beads.co.uk/#axzz3h57oq9Yl" target="_blank">The Bead Shop (Nottingham) Ltd</a> tomorrow, but I had to drop in and share some other news with you. Firstly, I've just received my copy of the August 2015 issue of Bead and Button magazine which has a picture of my Kazuri Kritters in the 'Your Work' section on page 17. You may remember that I made these pins in November of last year as part of my work as a design team member for <a href="http://kazuriwest.com/kazuri?source=www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk" target="_blank">Many Hands Marketplace - Kazuri West</a> and you can see the original post and the stories I wrote for each animal <a href="http://www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/kazuri-kritters.html" target="_blank">here</a>. The pins were originally going to be published as a project in Bead and Button, but it was later discovered that they are not as simple as they perhaps look and so they are not really suitable for a project. However, as my original intention was to help promote the work of the Kazuri ladies I still needed to find some way to do that and so a wonderful collaboration took place - <a href="http://www.preciosa-ornela.com/en/" target="_blank">Preciosa's</a> excellent photographer took some pictures of the pins for me (because really, my photography is not so great!) and the editor of Bead and Button magazine agreed to publish the picture and some links in the 'Your Work' section. I'm sorry that I cannot provide you with a tutorial for these pins, but I do hope that you love these charming <a href="http://kazuriwest.com/kazuri/buttons?source=www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk" target="_blank">handmade animal shaped buttons</a> as much as I do and that perhaps you may give some of them a new home.</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The other piece of news is that I have also received a copy of the new Kalmbach publication <a href="https://store.jewelrymakingmagazines.com/products/books/books/67860__Creative-Beading-Vol-10" target="_blank">Creative Beading Volume 10: The best projects from a year of Bead and Button magazine</a>. I have several of these lovely hardback annuals on my shelf now and I am delighted to have had four of my projects selected for this issue. Flowercup Cascade which is the Kumihimo project I wrote for Yorkbeads is on page 194 and my <a href="http://www.preciosa-ornela.com/en/?source=www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk" target="_blank">Preciosa</a> projects Flamenco Pellets, Twinflower Lariat and Organic Twist can be found on pages 74, 120 and 213 respectively.</div>

That's all the news for now so I'll get back to preparing for my demos. <br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There's an exciting new event taking place here in the UK this year - the first ever <a href="http://www.nationalbeadingweek.co.uk/" target="_blank">National Beading Week</a>! The event is sponsored by <a href="http://www.beadworkersguild.org.uk/" target="_blank">The Beadworkers Guild</a> and takes place from 25th July to 2nd August 2015 and is intended to be a huge celebration of all things beady and to help spread the word about the wonderful world of beads. Even though I have many beading friends around the world who all know what I am talking about if I slip names like Delicas, Pips and Fireline into the conversation, I still get lots of blank looks when 'other' people ask me what I do, so National Beading Week seems like an excellent way of introducing people to BEADS! There are all sorts of exciting things planned up and down the country, from workshops to contests and even some bead bombing! You can find out what's going on where if you click on the menu at the top of <a href="http://www.nationalbeadingweek.co.uk/" target="_blank">this page</a>. I am delighted to be involved in National Beading Week and so I will be doing demonstrations of four of my projects using <a href="http://www.preciosa-ornela.com/en/" target="_blank">Preciosa traditional Czech beads</a> (as shown below) at <a href="http://www.mailorder-beads.co.uk/" target="_blank">The Bead Shop (Nottingham) Ltd</a>. I'll also be taking part in an informal Question and Answer session where you'll have the opportunity to bring along a beading project, have a cup of tea and a biscuit and chat to other beaders - I'm not saying I will know the answer to all your questions, but it promises to be a fun event!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JsHgKz7Smro/VZPKeX8f-ZI/AAAAAAAADtE/smASyR7ybP4/s1600/Demo-collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JsHgKz7Smro/VZPKeX8f-ZI/AAAAAAAADtE/smASyR7ybP4/s400/Demo-collage.jpg" width="278" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So if you are in the area during National Beading Week, you will be able to find me doing demonstrations of the above projects at <a href="http://www.mailorder-beads.co.uk/shop/bead-fairs/" target="_blank">The Bead Shop (Nottingham) Ltd</a> on Saturday 25th July from 10.00am until 11.00am and from 11.30am until 12.30pm and again on Tuesday 28th July from 10.00am until 11.00am and from 11.30am until 12.30pm. The Question and Answer session will be on Saturday 25th July from 2.00pm until 5.00pm. There's no need to book any of these, simply turn up and stay for as long as you want or drift in and out, but I will be demonstrating the projects, showing finished and part made samples and passing on some of my 'top tips'. I will also have some free leaflets of the projects with me which you can take away and the bead shop will have the beads and some kits available to purchase. There are already some of the samples on display in the shop (as seen below) so feel free to pop in any time to take a closer look at them.</div>

<br />
<br />
Come and join in the fun at the <a href="http://www.mailorder-beads.co.uk/" target="_blank">bead shop</a> - and don't forget to spread the word about <a href="http://www.nationalbeadingweek.co.uk/" target="_blank">National Beading Week</a>!<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've been pretty quiet on the blogging front lately but, as usual, there has been a lot of unseen activity going on. Some time last year the editors of the German beading magazine <a href="https://www.perlen-poesie.com/" target="_blank">Perlen Poesie</a> asked if I would be interested in having a project and an artist profile article in their magazine and as I have followed and enjoyed this magazine since its inception in 2009, I was quick to say 'yes please!' I already had some experience of working with the people at PP as my 'English Rose' necklace project was published in issue 8, I taught my 'Popper Flowers' project at the first <a href="https://www.perlen-poesie.com/beaders-best" target="_blank">Bead Art Fair</a> in Hamburg (organised by Perlen Poesie) in 2011 and I was also one of the judges for their 2013 <a href="https://www.perlen-poesie.com/iba" target="_blank">IBA contest</a> so I knew that working with Perlen Poesie was likely to be a smooth and enjoyable process and I wasn't disappointed. I'm very fond of maximising opportunities and so I decided to involve <a href="http://www.preciosa-ornela.com/en/" target="_blank">Preciosa Ornela</a> in this project too and I chose to use pastel coloured <a href="http://www.preciosa-ornela.com/en/products/seed-beads" target="_blank">Preciosa Traditional Czech Beads</a> to create a lush flowery necklace which I thought would be suitable for the summer issue of an international Bead Art Magazine. You can see the result, 'Garden Party', in the picture below.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8ns84EIkFOs/VXwf2sM3u1I/AAAAAAAADr8/tYLAyo0Fn_8/s1600/PerlenPoesieCover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8ns84EIkFOs/VXwf2sM3u1I/AAAAAAAADr8/tYLAyo0Fn_8/s400/PerlenPoesieCover.jpg" width="306" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The instructions for the necklace are on page 92 of the magazine but as it's made up of individual flowers and leaves it would be very easy to adapt it to a bracelet or even a pendant or earrings if flowery collars aren't your thing. If you would like a copy of Perlen Poesie magazine you can order it direct from <a href="https://www.perlen-poesie.com/magazine" target="_blank">their website</a> (in German or English), or if you are in the US you can purchase the English language version <a href="http://www.perlen-poesie.us/" target="_blank">from here</a> or ask if your local bead store carries it or can obtain it for you. If you are in the UK, then <a href="http://www.mailorder-beads.co.uk/shop/perlen-poesie/#axzz3cs1qAp3U" target="_blank">The Bead Shop (Nottingham) Ltd</a> stocks the English language version. You can also find an 11 page profile article about me and my work which starts on page 10 of this issue and I have to say that I am VERY pleased with the way this turned out. Freddie and Andrea Ott flew to the UK to interview me as they wanted to see me in my 'natural habitat' and as you can see from the photo below, that is just what they got! The picture below shows me in my favourite beading spot, chatting to Andrea and working on my trusty beading tray that Mum painted for me and lined with a piece of her old velvet curtain. You may notice that the tray is now held together with yellow sticky tape but I will always treasure it and I'm quite happy that my 'warts and all' tray now appears in an exclusive magazine - how fortunate that the sticky tape matches the daffodils on the window sill!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WUPrrYD2rOw/VXwtqigAboI/AAAAAAAADsM/Rr8demrQSPo/s1600/KerrieAndAndrea3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="301" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WUPrrYD2rOw/VXwtqigAboI/AAAAAAAADsM/Rr8demrQSPo/s400/KerrieAndAndrea3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The duo spent a couple of hours at our house with Andrea asking me lots of questions and recording my answers while Freddie took numerous pictures of both me and my work. Then we all headed off to one of my favourite places, the village of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edwinstowe" target="_blank">Edwinstowe</a> to meet Robin Hood and Maid Marian before having a lovely fish and chip lunch and a leisurely stroll around Sherwood Forest. Next it was back home to decide which pieces of my work they would take to Germany with them for more detailed photography work - I have rather a lot of beadwork so Andrea found it hard to decide which pieces to take and Freddie's case left here bulging at the seams! It might seem a bit unusual for the editors of a magazine to go to these lengths but this is where that level of dedication and enthusiasm pays off because although they already knew about me, this time they got to know the real me, enabling them to write an accurate article. Once back in Germany, Freddie and Andrea took some staged shots of my work and of course I can't give too much away but I would like to show you this one - the way they have Podger, Flash and Crusty set up in a garden of tasty looking flowers with absolutely no input from me lets me know that I made an excellent choice in working with <a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/Perlen-Poesie/337984084484?fref=ts" target="_blank">Perlen Poesie magazine</a> again.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mOudtU8ZaNw/VXw0CdOj-6I/AAAAAAAADsc/ydlNtsY1nCs/s1600/Podgers%2BGarden.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mOudtU8ZaNw/VXw0CdOj-6I/AAAAAAAADsc/ydlNtsY1nCs/s400/Podgers%2BGarden.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So after months of behind the scenes work the magazine is now out and you can buy it, you can read the article (as well as several others such as an interesting article on the history of simulated pearls) and you can make the 'Garden Party' necklace along with lots of other beautiful beadwork projects. For me, this is not the end of my work with Perlen Poesie as I will be at the 2015 <a href="https://www.perlen-poesie.com/beaders-best" target="_blank">Beaders Best Bead Art Fair</a> in Hamburg and I will be giving more details about that in a future blog post. In the meantime, if you are in the area and you would like to see 'Garden Party' in the flesh, she is currently on display at <a href="http://www.mailorder-beads.co.uk/#axzz3cs1qAp3U" target="_blank">The Bead Shop (Nottingham) Ltd</a> so feel free to drop in and have a look and perhaps buy yourself some beads while you are there.</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I notice it's been nearly two months since my last blog post and I am wondering where that time went. I guess it went in a frantic whirl of meeting various deadlines for magazine and book projects (all to be published later this year or early next), followed by visiting family for a couple of weeks and then coming home to find my trusty 8 year old PC had virtually died. My computer is sort of limping along at the moment but this is the last blog post I will ever write using it. I am very attached to this desktop as I bought it in 2007, just before I turned my beading hobby into a business, so every pattern I have ever created, every diagram I have ever drawn and every blog post I have written have all been done on this computer. After doing a lot of research, I have decided to jump ship this time and I have invested in a shiny new iMac which is sitting waiting patiently in its box, ready to take over from Old Faithful.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qPSkQifZP3c/VUXrxN8PNHI/AAAAAAAADq8/cX4tLV6iQAs/s1600/PRECIOSA%2BRipple.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qPSkQifZP3c/VUXrxN8PNHI/AAAAAAAADq8/cX4tLV6iQAs/s1600/PRECIOSA%2BRipple.jpg" height="80" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So because of technological interruptions I am a bit late in letting you know that the latest issue of <a href="http://www.digitalbeading.com.au/" target="_blank">Digital Beading Magazine</a> is out now, packed with 178 pages of projects and inspiration. Although I don't have a project in this one, there are a couple of adverts in there that use my work - the newest one being the <a href="http://kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk/2015/03/ripples.html" target="_blank">Ripple Crown Pins</a> that I showed you in my last blog post. I can also tell you that the instructions for these little pins will be available from the <a href="http://www.preciosa-ornela.com/en/?source=www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk" target="_blank">Preciosa Ornela</a> website in the coming months.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ri48FBOLTrk/VUXuCNij4QI/AAAAAAAADrI/B4hJOqnqhSE/s1600/Ripple-Crown-Advert-DBM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ri48FBOLTrk/VUXuCNij4QI/AAAAAAAADrI/B4hJOqnqhSE/s1600/Ripple-Crown-Advert-DBM.jpg" height="400" width="315" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I am actually very sad to announce that issue 15 is the last ever issue of Digital Beading Magazine as Kelly (the editor) is moving on to an exciting new chapter in her life. I have been on the design team of DBM since the first issue back in December 2012 with 14 projects and an artist's profile published during that time. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Kelly and I would like to publicly thank her for all the support and opportunities she gave me (one of my favourite is pictured below) and I wish her and her family all the very best for the future. I hope you have enjoyed reading DBM as much as I enjoyed designing for it and don't forget that you can still purchase the current issue and back issues via <a href="http://www.digitalbeading.com.au/back-issues.html" target="_blank">this page</a> of the website.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tJz_lIf6z88/VUXwq1vmLZI/AAAAAAAADrU/82GCg-wqyRA/s1600/DBM3Mum.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tJz_lIf6z88/VUXwq1vmLZI/AAAAAAAADrU/82GCg-wqyRA/s1600/DBM3Mum.jpg" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
That's all for this time but I do have some exciting news bubbling under the surface, so I will be back with details of that within the next few weeks.<br />
<br />
See you next time!<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A few days ago <a href="http://preciosa-ornela.ru/en/?source=www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk" target="_blank">Preciosa Ornela</a> released their brand new Ripple™ bead onto the market and I'm happy to say that I had the good fortune to be involved in making some sample pieces using this interesting new bead, so let me tell you a bit about them. The Ripple is a circular pressed glass bead with a 12 mm diameter and it has a wavy curve to it - hence the name. It comes in a wide range of the most beautiful vacuum coated colours in both shiny and matte finishes and I have to say that although not necessarily ideal for the usual beadweaving stitches, I fell in love with this new bead. Because these beads have a much larger surface than most beads I usually work with, you really get the full impact of the colour and what with the pleasant S-shaped curve of the side view, it's hard not to be drawn to them. Like many larger pressed beads, they really want to take centre stage, but they do mix well with a few seed beads - here is what I did with my Ripple beads:</div>
<b><br /></b>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6lOi-DBKOA4/VPhMw-qOh9I/AAAAAAAADoo/Wr6mr3lIIp8/s1600/Ripples-on-the-surface-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6lOi-DBKOA4/VPhMw-qOh9I/AAAAAAAADoo/Wr6mr3lIIp8/s1600/Ripples-on-the-surface-2.jpg" height="265" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--AROOS8nn98/VPhMzxGtx9I/AAAAAAAADow/oLh0BVJI9vA/s1600/Ripples-on-the-surface-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--AROOS8nn98/VPhMzxGtx9I/AAAAAAAADow/oLh0BVJI9vA/s1600/Ripples-on-the-surface-3.jpg" height="265" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
It's difficult for me to stay away from a seed bead, and so for my 'Ripples on the Surface' bracelet I firstly made a narrow strip of herringbone using bright silver seed beads and then I decorated it with glittering Ripples in glorious California Green. For the finishing touch and to bring out the other colours in the Ripples, I tied it with a length of pink ribbon.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-stCiTBtpxyI/VPhQr0DcDoI/AAAAAAAADo8/pQ-A2Qlj7iI/s1600/Clustered-Ripples-6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-stCiTBtpxyI/VPhQr0DcDoI/AAAAAAAADo8/pQ-A2Qlj7iI/s1600/Clustered-Ripples-6.jpg" height="265" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For the next experiment I chose California Silver and California Graphite Ripples (in both shiny and matte) and using more silver seed beads I made lots and lots of little stems and loops for them. Then I threaded them all on to a sterling silver screw end bangle so that they were very tightly packed. This encouraged the Ripples to bunch up and show off their lovely surfaces which you can see in 'Clustered Ripples' shown above.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2zosiMEbawU/VPhUiB-tQjI/AAAAAAAADps/WBNQ--WsynE/s1600/Reversible-Ripples-side-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2zosiMEbawU/VPhUiB-tQjI/AAAAAAAADps/WBNQ--WsynE/s1600/Reversible-Ripples-side-2.jpg" height="358" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CrjBFbAGh-c/VPhTD0d-S7I/AAAAAAAADpQ/5uc11kY5o4k/s1600/Reversible%2BRipples%2Bside%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CrjBFbAGh-c/VPhTD0d-S7I/AAAAAAAADpQ/5uc11kY5o4k/s1600/Reversible%2BRipples%2Bside%2B1.jpg" height="337" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Still liking the options that little seed bead loops gave me, I went on to make more using California Silver Ripples and black seed beads. These Ripples are silver on one side and gold on the other and so I made sure I threaded them all the same way round to create 'Reversible Ripples' which (as the name suggests) can be worn with the silver facing the front or the gold.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OppoJnfZiYA/VPhWLT0QK2I/AAAAAAAADp4/sVV4Y5VETYc/s1600/Ripple-Crown-Pin-7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OppoJnfZiYA/VPhWLT0QK2I/AAAAAAAADp4/sVV4Y5VETYc/s1600/Ripple-Crown-Pin-7.jpg" height="265" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-A0xIlgDCmLg/VPhWOL29jFI/AAAAAAAADqA/-l76yRNY6bw/s1600/Ripple-Crown-Pin-5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-A0xIlgDCmLg/VPhWOL29jFI/AAAAAAAADqA/-l76yRNY6bw/s1600/Ripple-Crown-Pin-5.jpg" height="265" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SqlL2KeZrrk/VPhWRJ3V4FI/AAAAAAAADqI/Rh5iIiB9AZY/s1600/Ripple-Crown-Pin-6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SqlL2KeZrrk/VPhWRJ3V4FI/AAAAAAAADqI/Rh5iIiB9AZY/s1600/Ripple-Crown-Pin-6.jpg" height="265" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I really like the side view of the Ripple beads and so I wanted to find a way to display that lovely curve as well as the finish on the flat side. After a bit of experimentation I found a way to stabilise a circle of Ripples and then nestled them in to a bed of seed beads to make a sparkly little crown shaped brooch. I enjoyed making these so much that I actually made a set of three 'Ripple Crown Pins' using California Blue, California Graphite and California Night Ripple beads.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hnQVf-tWNFI/VPhYOwxf8II/AAAAAAAADqU/mizhP_8UW64/s1600/Ripples-and-Pearls-4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hnQVf-tWNFI/VPhYOwxf8II/AAAAAAAADqU/mizhP_8UW64/s1600/Ripples-and-Pearls-4.jpg" height="265" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7U99bswa4uo/VPhYV9wYorI/AAAAAAAADqk/yvMONHxJhJw/s1600/Ripples-and-Pearls-5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7U99bswa4uo/VPhYV9wYorI/AAAAAAAADqk/yvMONHxJhJw/s1600/Ripples-and-Pearls-5.jpg" height="265" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As time was running out but there were still Ripples to use and colours to show, I finished off with a simple strung bracelet which I've named 'Ripples and Pearls'. I chose the matte version of the California Green Ripple bead which has a lovely pink and gold finish to it and I mixed them with some creamy 4 mm glass pearls to make a slinky 3-strand bracelet using a fabulous silver clasp from <a href="http://www.agrainofsand.com/?source=www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk" target="_blank">A Grain Of Sand</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So there you have the results of my Ripple experiments, but there are many more ways to use these delightful new beads and if you take a look at <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/preciosa-ornela/sets/72157651034765625/" target="_blank">Preciosa's Flickr album</a> you can see some really wonderful work by the other designers.</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Hmmmmmm, where have I been since the last blog post? Well, first I had flu and then I had a BIG project to design and make which kept me very quietly beading and writing for at least 4 solid weeks - I can't tell you any more about that just at the moment, but all will be revealed in about 3 months from now. In the meantime I have some other beading news for you, in that not only has <a href="http://www.preciosa-ornela.com/?source=www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk" target="_blank">Preciosa Ornela</a> published another new pattern from me on their website, I have also invented a new word. A pair of easy to make cufflinks using the Preciosa Pip™ beads - I give you <a href="http://preciosa-ornela.com/project-pipflinks_cufflinks" target="_blank"><b>Pipflinks!</b></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jEJqntJ2NcA/VO4Mv8LEUvI/AAAAAAAADno/EEdjtcf1tTc/s1600/Pipflinks-Cover-PageFb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jEJqntJ2NcA/VO4Mv8LEUvI/AAAAAAAADno/EEdjtcf1tTc/s1600/Pipflinks-Cover-PageFb.jpg" height="400" width="293" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
You might remember that I made a pair of cufflinks as part of <a href="http://kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk/2014/08/the-wedding-collection.html" target="_blank">The Wedding Collection</a>, but I went on to use those flowers in my <a href="http://bnb.jewelrymakingmagazines.com/projects/free-projects/2014/10/pipflower-bracelet" target="_blank">Pipflower bracelet</a> published by Bead & Button magazine, so I decided to turn the other double layered flower design into a pair of elegant cufflinks instead. I'm a big fan of cufflinks both for men and women and I've made lots of floral cufflinks in the past. Although they can look very smart on a man with the right sort of attire, I also think they make a lovely finishing touch to a woman's outfit. Imagine wearing quite an austere androgynous suit to the office five days a week ... as you reach across the boardroom table at the meeting, your jacket sleeve rises to reveal a flash of electric blue Pipflink! Of course if cufflinks are really not your thing, there's nothing stopping you turning these flowers into earrings, rings or whatever takes your fancy and you can <a href="http://preciosa-ornela.com/project-pipflinks_cufflinks" target="_blank">download the FREE pattern here</a>.</div>

I hope you enjoy my latest pattern and as always, feel free to send me pictures of anything you make from this pattern or post them on my <a href="https://www.facebook.com/beadwork.by.kerrie.slade" target="_blank">Facebook page</a> or Preciosa's <a href="https://www.facebook.com/PreciosaOrnela" target="_blank">Facebook page</a> - we'd love to see them. Another of my new Pip™ bead patterns will be published via Preciosa soon, but I'm afraid I can't guarantee you that a new word will be included as well next time!</div>

Hello everyone and Happy New Year to you!</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I always like to look both backwards and forwards at this time of year and I'm actually giving myself a little pat on the back right now. It turns out that I had 17 projects published last year via the <a href="http://www.preciosa-ornela.com/?source=www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk" target="_blank">Preciosa Ornela</a> website (based in the Czech Republic), <a href="http://bnb.jewelrymakingmagazines.com/?source=www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk" target="_blank">Bead & Button magazine</a> (based in the US) and <a href="http://www.digitalbeading.com.au/?source=www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk" target="_blank">Digital Beading Magazine</a> (based in Australia). That is a whole lot of designing, beading, pattern writing, diagram drawing and proof reading and much of it evolved as the year went on - I think if I had known that kind of workload was ahead of me this time last year, I might have run away to hide in the woods. Taking stock of the past year is a good lesson to me and reminds me of what I can achieve step by step, or should I say 'bead by bead'. Anyway, turning my attention forward instead of back, it looks as though 2015 might be a quieter year for me publication wise, but I do have one or two things in the pipeline which I will of course share with you as soon as possible. In the meantime, there are now around 60 of my designs available in various places, so if you are looking for some inspiration, feel free to scroll through <a href="http://kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">my blog</a> and take a wander through <a href="http://www.kerrieslade.co.uk/" target="_blank">my website</a> or look <a href="http://www.kerrieslade.co.uk/page5.htm" target="_blank">here</a>, <a href="http://www.kerrieslade.co.uk/page7.htm" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="http://www.kerrieslade.co.uk/page4.htm" target="_blank">here</a>.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
You might recognise the first pattern to be published in 2015 as it has been published before, but Rose Window Rivolis has been reworked in a different colour and is now available as a <a href="http://www.preciosa-ornela.com/project-rose-window-rivolis" target="_blank">FREE download</a> from the Preciosa website.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pxSK63bx7Go/VK_mZitANHI/AAAAAAAADm0/PkN6GHP2cpg/s1600/Project-ROSE-WINDOW-RIVOLIS.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pxSK63bx7Go/VK_mZitANHI/AAAAAAAADm0/PkN6GHP2cpg/s1600/Project-ROSE-WINDOW-RIVOLIS.jpg" height="400" width="281" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
All you need to create yourself a pair of super sparkly earrings or an eye catching pendant are some 16 mm Rivolis and a sprinkling of Charlottes. I have made a pair of these earrings in both gold and silver now and they really do catch the light as they twirl, with the Rivolis glinting through the lacy overlay of the cut beads. Although these earrings are around 7 cm long, they are very light to wear as I've used the minimal amount of beads by capturing the Rivolis with netting stitch. Of course if dangly earrings are not your thing, adding just one component to an earring finding still gives a touch of shimmer in a much more toned down way.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zAfsYcbchBk/VK_qEdOG31I/AAAAAAAADnA/cLAKFpJNjHw/s1600/RoseWindoRivolis2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zAfsYcbchBk/VK_qEdOG31I/AAAAAAAADnA/cLAKFpJNjHw/s1600/RoseWindoRivolis2.jpg" height="265" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm happy to say that the earrings have also been used in another Preciosa advert, this time in the February issue of Bead and Button magazine. The Preciosa photographer has truly captured the detail in this shot and you can really see the gorgeous warm sheen of the Crystal Honey Rivolis - thank you!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QJMY0V9y5fk/VK_qriQBuZI/AAAAAAAADnI/mNEU9oEJEWY/s1600/2014-10-24_BeadButton_Febru.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QJMY0V9y5fk/VK_qriQBuZI/AAAAAAAADnI/mNEU9oEJEWY/s1600/2014-10-24_BeadButton_Febru.jpg" height="400" width="310" /></a></div>
<br />
So that's it for this time. I hope 2015 is a sparkly year of endless creativity for you and that it holds many happy hours of beading.<br />
<br />
See you next time!<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here I am again with another <b>free</b> party-themed bracelet pattern for you to download and enjoy. This time it is my Charlotte Flowers design which uses Charlottes and Rivolis from <a href="http://www.preciosa-ornela.com/?source=www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk" target="_blank">Preciosa Ornela</a> to create a row of dazzling star-shaped blooms. You can download the pattern <a href="http://www.preciosa-ornela.com/charlotte_flowers" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-odfcNqOKTg4/VICJ4lDgBkI/AAAAAAAADlM/hucXWasYY-o/s1600/CHARLOTTE-FLOWERS-PROJECT-C.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-odfcNqOKTg4/VICJ4lDgBkI/AAAAAAAADlM/hucXWasYY-o/s1600/CHARLOTTE-FLOWERS-PROJECT-C.jpg" height="400" width="280" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When Preciosa first asked me to create a project for the holiday season, I had all sorts of beady ideas running through my mind; from baubles and brooches to tiaras and tree decorations. In the end though, I settled on an understated yet elegant bracelet that will quietly sparkle on your wrist like snow in the moonlight. I've captured luminous crystal AB Rivolis in nets of glittering silver Charlottes and then added radiant golden petals which appear to reflect the flash of the Rivolis.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As well as being added to the Preciosa <a href="http://www.preciosa-ornela.com/projects" target="_blank">project catalogue</a>, this piece has also been used in one of their latest adverts which you can see here. The photo in the advert shows a nice close-up of the gorgeous clasp I used as the finishing touch for my party piece bracelet. It features a beautiful vintage floral brass button set into a sterling silver box clasp and is available from <a href="http://www.agrainofsand.com/?source=www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk" target="_blank">A Grain Of Sand</a>.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've just worked out that <a href="http://www.preciosa-ornela.com/charlotte_flowers" target="_blank">Charlotte Flowers</a> is the seventeenth pattern I have published in 2014 and that's in addition to the patterns I sell <a href="http://www.kerrieslade.co.uk/page5.htm" target="_blank">via my website</a> and the other forty or so projects that have previously been published (see the side bar for details). I hope my designs give you many happy hours of beading and I aim to bring you more of what you love in 2015.</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm happy to tell you that it's free pattern time again! Make lots of six-sided components using a mixture of <a href="http://www.preciosa-ornela.com/?source=www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk" target="_blank">Preciosa Ornela</a> seed beads, Farfalle™ and Twin™ beads and connect them all together to create this dramatic cuff style bracelet just in time for the party season. You can download the pattern <a href="http://bnb.jewelrymakingmagazines.com/projects/free-projects/2014/11/hexagonal-lace-cuff" target="_blank">here</a>.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OnYJqzDBPlA/VHyR6Z_sCwI/AAAAAAAADkQ/lu5o01Pw35o/s1600/Hexagonal-Lace-Facebook.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OnYJqzDBPlA/VHyR6Z_sCwI/AAAAAAAADkQ/lu5o01Pw35o/s1600/Hexagonal-Lace-Facebook.jpg" height="400" width="306" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
You might not recognise it, but this piece actually started out as <a href="http://kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/neon-news-and-sparkles-do-not-last.html" target="_blank">Peas and Carrots bracelet</a> which I made in August of last year. <a href="http://bnb.jewelrymakingmagazines.com/?source=www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk" target="_blank">Bead and Button magazine</a> wanted something a little more 'subtle' though and so I made another one using a combination of black, silver and half jet and half labrador beads to add a touch of elegance.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9JADo35wMKY/VHyX_oMep6I/AAAAAAAADko/fPE_K0FhO3k/s1600/PreciosaPeasAndCarrots.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9JADo35wMKY/VHyX_oMep6I/AAAAAAAADko/fPE_K0FhO3k/s1600/PreciosaPeasAndCarrots.jpg" height="265" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This is quite a wide statement piece which needs a secure closure to keep the two halves in place and to prevent the outer rows from furling. On the original bracelet I used a piece of ribbon zig-zagged through two loops to keep everything firmly in place, but for the new colourway I've added two beautiful jet Swarovski box clasps from <a href="http://www.agrainofsand.com/?source=www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk" target="_blank">A Grain Of Sand</a> to create a reliable fastening with a nice streamlined finish.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XVAp-Uj01hQ/VHyYsUKfJcI/AAAAAAAADkw/Mb52CoF3AB4/s1600/Hexagonal%2BLace%2BCuff%2Bbnb%2Bphoto.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XVAp-Uj01hQ/VHyYsUKfJcI/AAAAAAAADkw/Mb52CoF3AB4/s1600/Hexagonal%2BLace%2BCuff%2Bbnb%2Bphoto.jpg" height="250" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Whether you choose neon brights or classic black and silver (or something entirely different!) I hope you have fun with the pattern. And feel free to share pictures of your finished piece with me, Preciosa or Bead & Button as we would all love to see your Hexagonal Lace Cuff.</div>
<br />
See you next time!<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Back in August I posted the news that I have become a design team member for <a href="http://kazuriwest.com/kazuri?source=www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk" target="_blank">Many Hands Marketplace - Kazuri West</a> and I showed you my <a href="http://kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk/2014/08/design-team-member-for-many-hands_13.html" target="_blank">Samunnat Flowers</a> which use the gorgeous 'Bindu' beads made by the inspirational ladies of Nepal. I mentioned that I also had a small collection of African Kazuri beads and I was hoping to show some pieces made with these before now (but you know how life can sometimes change our plans) but finally, here are my Kazuri Kritters! I always like a touch of whimsy in my life and so as soon as I spotted these little handmade <a href="http://kazuriwest.com/kazuri/buttons?source=www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk" target="_blank">animal shaped buttons</a> I knew they would be a perfect fit for me. I've created a set of three brooches and I've used lots and lots of seed beads from <a href="http://www.preciosa-ornela.com/?source=www.kerrieslade.blogspot.co.uk" target="_blank">Preciosa Ornela</a> to give each animal their own special shady tree.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eiIWANkRDwI/VGNIU5bA5kI/AAAAAAAADjM/PNe5nBHtIKo/s1600/KazuriKrittersName.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="282" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eiIWANkRDwI/VGNIU5bA5kI/AAAAAAAADjM/PNe5nBHtIKo/s400/KazuriKrittersName.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Each piece is only 3 inches (8 cm) high but they took many hours to make as the 'leaves' are created with layer upon layer of small seed beads. And so as I was in full whimsical mode, I wrote each animal a little story as I beaded. Read on ...<br />

<i>It's a searingly hot afternoon and Cheetah sits in the shade of his favourite tree. His belly is full from an earlier feast but still he hides in the long grass observing a herd of wildebeest - it's cheetah nature. He frowns as a lazy fly buzzes around him, flicks the tip of his handsome tail and yawns. Cheetah can see far, far into the shimmering distance and yet he doesn't notice a pair of Seeall birds nestled quietly in the foliage right above him. The birds watch Cheetah watching the wildebeest watching a dark shape in the shadow of the well known Cheetah Tree.</i><br />

<i>It's a bright African morning, the sky is cornflower blue with dazzling white clouds billowing on the horizon. Zebra stands under a Scarlet Blossom Tree contemplatively munching a fragrant red flower. His beautiful reverie is broken suddenly by an egret swooping down nearby. Zebra snorts, stamps a hoof and testily swishes his tail about his stripey muscular buttocks. And then he remembers the taste and the smell of those delicious rare ruby blooms that lay in abundance on the ground around him and he licks his lips in contented anticipation. All is right in Zebra's world again.</i><br />

<i>It's just before sunset. A lone Pearlfruit Tree stands drenched in the heavy honey-dripping light making the fruit gleam like stars in the night sky. Giraffe stands under the tree with the weeping branches swaying and rustling around her slender elegant neck. She knows from experience that the enticing looking fruit are bitter to taste and will only dry her already parched and dusty throat even further - the real prize is the young fresh leaf buds that sprout high in the centre of the tree. She stretches upwards, effortlessly strips a twig and slowly closes her long dark lashes as she tastes the juicy sweetness.</i><br />
